Sneak Peak: What to Expect from the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer

After almost 14 years without a new Blazer on the road, this five-passenger crossover is making a big comeback. The first thing you’ll notice about the new model is its sharp, aggressive styling, with muscular lines remnant of the modern Camaro. This isn’t the utilitarian Blazer of old.

Of course, that isn’t to say that the new crossover isn’t big on utility. Properly equipped, these models will tow up to 4,500 pounds. That’s more than enough towing capability to get your family boat to the beach. The new Blazer will also feature a hitch-view camera, making trailer hookup a snap. In addition to towing performance, these crossovers are set to offer a sporty ride, thanks to standard all-wheel drive. In addition to enhancing traction on soft surfaces, the all-wheel-drive system can decouple the rear axle to improve fuel economy.

Although we don’t know a lot about feature content just yet, we do know that these crossovers will supply impressive cargo space. Fold down the rear seats to create 54.2 cubic feet for especially big cargo items, like yard-sale furniture finds. The hands-free power liftgate and track-based cargo management system means easy loading, unloading, and organizing. And, when you’ve got cargo stacked to the ceiling, the Blazer’s rearview camera can project its display into the rearview mirror to help you back out safely.

What’s Under the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer Hood?

When it hits the roadways, the 2019 Blazer will come standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. This Chevy will make 193 horsepower, lending itself to easy highway merging and passing. For all-out power, shoppers can choose the Blazer’s optional 3.6-liter V6 engine. With it, the Blazer will give you 305 horses for a truly athletic performance. Both engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, so you can expect reasonable fuel economy at high speeds.

What Features Will Be Available?

Chevrolet has not yet released the Blazer’s list of trim models and their features. However, it’s widely expected that the Blazer will come standard with the latest in-car technology, including Chevrolet’s trusty 8-inch touchscreen. You’ll probably also find standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities on every model, so you can interact with smartphone apps from said touchscreen. Like other Chevrolet crossovers, the Blazer will likely feature OnStar emergency telematics. This system gives you the power to call for help after an accident or an expected breakdown.

The 2019 Chevrolet Blazer is just as likely to offer a long list of luxury features. It’ll probably keep passengers as cozy as possible, with heated and ventilated front seats and heated outboard rear seats. It’s also expected to offer a wireless charging pad to keep compatible smartphones ready for use. You’ll likely be able to add up to six USB ports to your Blazer, so your favorite passengers can keep their devices in good working order.
