2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs Toyota Tundra

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs Toyota Tundra

Inventory Contact Full-size pickups trucks are such big business these days, there's little wonder foreign manufacturers are trying to muscle in and snag some of the market from domestic models. Nissan, Toyota, and Honda all are making moves to take on Chevrolet, Ford, and GMC. That's a big task though, as domestic trucks are the first choice for a vast majority of American truck buyers. But if you're open to the idea of something a little different, let's see how the Toyota Tundra measures up against one of the domestic heavy hitters, the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs Toyota Tundra Design If you were asked to draw the blueprint for a full-size, light-duty domestic pickup truck, you'd probably come up with something looking remarkably similar to the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. It's a straightforward, good-looking truck with crisp lines, square shoulders and all the muscular angles you could ask for. It's immediately apparent as soon as you see the Toyota Tundra that it's not an American full-size pickup, even if it is made here. While that design isn't necessarily a fault, for buyers who are looking for a truck that looks as tough as it actually is, it may be a slight deterrent. For its traditional, tough lines and clean design, the win here goes to the Chevy. Performance Buyers have three engines to choose from in the Silverado 1500, which is just about right for this size of truck. Buyers will be attracted to the two V-8s, but the Silverado's V-6 is excellent and more powerful than you might expect. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500's ride is good, two different automatic transmissions to choose between, and the electric power steering is nicely weighted. Only two engines are offered with the Toyota Tundra, and as both are V-8s that's a definitely disadvantage when compared to the Silverado. The optional 5.7-liter V-8 is smooth and quick, but overall, the Silverado delivers a better ride, handling and balance. Specifications The option guide for a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 seems more like War and Peace than a truck buying guide, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on your point of view. In its most basic form, the Silverado 1500 really is basic, but beyond you can customize your Silverado to be anything you want it to be. Base models come with air conditioning, an AM/FM four-speaker stereo, cruise control, 17-inch wheels, vinyl seats, power locks and little else. Beyond that, though, the limits only depend on how deep your pockets are. In complete contrast to the base model Silverado, the entry level Tundra SR gets an AM/FM/CD stereo, smartphone connectivity, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, USB and iPod connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and a small amount of voice recognition functionality. You actually have to purposely specify downwards to work truck standards of vinyl seats and rubber floors. However, there just isn't the opportunity to customize the Tundra in the way you can specify the Silverado to match your every whim, so it's another victory here for the Chevy. Capability The maximum payload you can haul with a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is 2,080 pounds, although the majority of models are in the region of 1,600-1,700 pounds. When it comes to the all-important area of towing capacity, the Silverado has a maximum rating of 10,500 pounds. If you're expecting a big win for the Silverado 1500 in this area you're in for a surprise. The maximum payload capacity of the Toyota is 2,250 pounds, while the maximum towing capacity is an impressive 12,500 pounds. This is a surprising, but nonetheless convincing, win for the Tundra. Learn More about the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Inventory Contact Although the Toyota Tundra is a powerful, capable addition to the full-size pickup truck market, it's still no match for the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The Silverado can be configured to be just about anything you want it to be, with options that vary from base-model work truck to luxurious executive truck, and delivers capability and performance as well. You won't be disappointed by this American standard.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs Ford F-150

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs Ford F-150

Inventory Contact The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the Ford F-150 offer tough competition, supplying rugged performance, modern utility, and generous towing and hauling capabilities. These trucks are also known for their contemporary interior design and innovative comfort features. Compare them, side by side, before you make your choice. 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs Ford F-150 Utility The Silverado 1500 is ready to tackle big jobs. Innovative utility features, like moveable upper cargo tie-downs, help you organize and secure your daily haul. The integrated trailer-brake controller provides substantial driver authority over heavy loads. Of course, the F-150 offers its own brand of utility. The tailgate assist step, for example, provides effortless access to cargo items. Ford's Pro Trailer Backup Assist system is a unique feature that gives you the power to guide a large trailer in the proper direction. If you're looking for tough hauls, look to the Silverado. Safety Here, the F-150 takes a slight lead. In government crash tests, it earned a perfect five-star rating for overall protection. The F-150's inflatable rear seat belts mitigate injury during a collision. This pickup also offers a wide array of high-tech driver aids, like blind-spot monitoring, which alert you to danger in advance. Still, the Silverado 1500 is no slouch in the safety department. It also earned stellar crash-test scores, including the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's top score of "Good." Thanks to the OnStar emergency telematics system, you'll enjoy handy features like on-demand roadside assistance. Power & Performance If you're in the market for classic V8 performance, choose the new Silverado 1500. This model's high-end, 6.2-liter V8 engine produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Use it to tow max loads of 12,500 pounds-which might be helpful when you're called upon to haul an African elephant, monster truck, or, say, a 5th wheel camper on your next trip. The F-150 was also built to move serious weight. To tow maximum loads, check out the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, which is rated for 375 horses and 470 pound-feet of torque. Properly equipped, an F-150 with this engine can tow up to 12,200 pounds. With less power and slightly less tow-capacity, the F-150 doesn't quite match the Silverado's performance. Interior Comfort In the matter of passenger comfort, the Silverado 1500 definitely outshines the competition. Choose from three cabin options - regular, extended, and crew - for the passenger space that suits your needs. In addition to substantial head- and legroom, the Silverado 1500 provides stylish features like handsome leather upholstery. Like the Silverado, the Ford F-150 cabin can be equipped for serious luxury. When you choose heated and ventilated front seats, extreme weather never feels like an issue. The F-150 is also celebrated for its roomy crew cabin, which doubles as a family hauler on weekends. Learn More about the Chevrolet Silverado Inventory Contact The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 gets the job done, delivering in a big way with class-leading V8 power, impressive towing capacity, and a cabin that's both comfortable and luxurious.

2017 Chevrolet Camaro vs Ford Mustang

Inventory Contact When it comes to comparing legendary muscle car icons like the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang, it's easy for objectivity to go right out the window. Enthusiasts will inevitably fall into one camp or the other, which means getting a balanced comparison of these two legends can be a little difficult. So, here's a level-headed look at how these two fabulous cars measure up against each other. 2017 Chevrolet Camaro vs Ford Mustang Exterior Styling One of the biggest factors in deciding which one of these you're likely to go for will be which one you prefer the look of. The Camaro designers have a slight advantage as they have more room to maneuver because the Camaro doesn't have to pay homage to its predecessors the same way a Mustang needs to. The current Camaro now boasts almost comic-book styling that's rapidly becoming part of its DNA, so the current sixth-generation isn't very different from the previous model. It's a fabulously distinctive design you'll either love or hate. A Mustang definitely has to look like a Mustang first and foremost, but that's not a bad starting point. The current model is considerably less dramatic and polarizing with its styling than the Camaro, but it's also not as easy to get excited about. We're giving the style points here to the Chevy. Practicality Practicality might not the first thing most buyers of cars like these will think about, but as these are cars that are now more likely than ever to be used every day it definitely has to be considered. Both cars are four-seaters rather than 2+2s, but the Mustang is the bigger car on the outside which translates to more room on the inside. The Mustang has more leg room for passengers in the front and the back seats, and the 13.5 cu.-ft. of trunk volume in the Ford trounces the pretty compact 9.1 cu.-ft. of the Camaro. If you want the car that's easier to live with on a daily basis, the Mustang has the edge here. Power and Performance You'll find a four-pot in the Camaro as the base engine, which is a 2.0-liter turbo developing a very respectable 275 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. Next up is a 335 horsepower 3.6-liter V-6, and the first V-8 is a 6.2 putting out 455 horsepower. However, the full Camaro experience comes from the awesome ZL1 with its 6.2-liter V-8 developing an extremely impressive 650 horsepower. All versions can be had with either the coupe or convertible body style. The standard V-6 in the Mustang and the EcoBoost four-pot both offer more power than their Camaro equivalents. But these are muscle cars, so the more power the better and the Mustang has no answer for the Camaro ZL1. The best the Shelby GT350 can offer is just 526 horsepower from its 5.2-liter V-6, so this is an easy and important victory for the Camaro over the Mustang. Fuel Economy As these are likely to be daily drivers these days, fuel economy is a consideration, especially at the lower ends of the trim and engine spectrum. The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is pretty good in this area with the base 2.0-liter turbo-four being rated at 22 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg combined with the automatic transmission. The Ford isn't particularly impressive on gas, as even the most frugal versions with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine can only manage best figures of 21 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway and 24 mpg combined. This has to be another win for the Camaro then. Learn More about the Chevrolet Camaro Inventory Contact Unless you're one of those people who just doesn't like Mustangs, it's hard to find much to criticize. It looks good, it moves well, and it's not expensive to buy. However, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro has the wow factor with looks, doesn't cost much more than the Ford, and can be much more powerful. If we could choose only one of these powerful American muscle cars, it would definitely be the Camaro.

2017 Chevrolet Trax vs Ford Escape

2017 Chevrolet Trax vs Ford Escape

Inventory Contact Currently the most popular vehicle in America, crossovers like the 2017 Chevrolet Trax and the Ford Escape give the people what they want - style and substance at and affordable rate. Both the Trax and Escape supply roomy cabins, high-tech safety gear, and a capable performance. Before you decide which model is right for you, check out our side-by-side comparison. 2017 Chevrolet Trax vs Ford Escape Interior Comfort Inside, the Trax cabin is all about modern luxury. Features like heated seats take passenger comfort to the next level, keeping you cozy throughout your daily commute. Throughout the cabin, you'll find high-quality materials and stylish design, including a sleek, modern dash and upscale leather upholstery. The 2017 Ford Escape also puts a premium on modern comfort. The cabin hosts plenty of room for up to five passengers. Seating is plush and supportive. When you opt for the hands-free liftgate, loading cargo is a snap. With the key in your pocket, simply kick your foot under the bumper to open it. Overall, though, the added extras put the Trax ahead. Safety This race was a close one, but the Escape is our pick for safety. All models come with a rearview camera, which makes backing up a simple task. The Escape also offers a range of driver aids, which monitor your surroundings and alert you to danger. The forward collision alert system, for example, warns you of when you're coming up on other vehicles or pedestrians too fast. Still, when it comes to passenger protection, the Trax follows closely behind. It, too, offers high-tech systems that are designed to help you avoid needless accidents. The Trax also includes OnStar, which keeps you protected with features like on-demand roadside assistance. Technology & Convenience If you're a tech junkie, put the Trax at the top of your wish list. It's got everything you need to stay connected, from turn-by-turn navigation to the in-car 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The Trax's MyLink infotainment system includes a crisp, clear central touchscreen and convenient voice controls. The 2017 Ford Escape also strives to keep you connected. Its Sync 3 infotainment system now includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can interact with smartphone features directly on the Escape's central touchscreen. The cabin's 110-volt, household-style power outlet means passengers can charge their laptops on the go. Performance & Fuel Economy Here we like the Trax, which provides both substantial power and thrifty fuel economy, earning up to 33 mpg on the highway. You'll save plenty of money at the pump without ever sacrificing performance. The Trax also offers all-wheel drive, maximizing traction when roads are wet or icy. Of course, the 2017 Ford Escape isn't far behind. The Escape's three engine options mean you can opt for a more fuel-efficient ride - or greater power for swifter acceleration. As with the Trax, you can add all-wheel drive to your Escape for enhanced driver control during bad weather. Learn More about the Chevrolet Trax Inventory Contact Both crossovers have their fine points, but the 2017 Chevrolet Trax is our absolute favorite. For starters, its roomy, family-friendly cabin makes the Trax the perfect pick for your next road trip. Tech features, like the Wi-Fi hotspot, provide an important link to the outside world. When it comes to safety, the Trax truly shines and you'll love its sporty ride.

2017 Chevrolet Traverse vs Ford Explorer

2017 Chevrolet Traverse vs Ford Explorer

Inventory Contact The search for the perfect midsize SUV can be overwhelming in a market that is dominated by the crossover category. Whether you want the most passenger space or the highest towing capacity for those family camping trips, the lines can get a bit blurry. Of course, you want the safest vehicle but what about all the latest technology? Both the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse and the Ford Explorer have something to offer. 2017 Chevrolet Traverse vs Ford Explorer Hauling People and Things If you're shopping for a midsize SUV, you likely have an age-old problem: how to fit all of the people you need to take with you and their stuff without feeling like a sardine. The 2017 Chevrolet Traverse keeps its eye on the ball in this category, giving you room for 8 and 34.6 cubic feet of additional cargo space. One thing we really like is that the Traverse can be configured in any combination you need, with seats that store in the floor for large cargo and a second row that easily slides forward for access to the third row without making everyone get out. Carpool, soccer practice, and grocery trips have never been easier. The Ford Explorer only seats seven, with no upgrade option to add that 8th passenger, which leaves it lagging behind the Traverse. With a flip forward seat in the second row, getting in and out of the third row quickly is tougher in the Explorer. You can opt for the captain's seats in the second row for more comfort, but that brings the seating down to 6. We like the Traverse in this category. Is it actually a UTILITY vehicle? If you're looking for a vehicle that will adapt to your needs, the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse is the right choice. Especially when you're looking for utility performance, the Traverse doesn't disappoint with an impressive 5,200 lb tow capacity. The Traverse backs that capacity with a bigger, more robust engine for all driving conditions. Every Traverse model has a 3.6-liter V6 and six-speed automatic transmission, with the greater horsepower in the upper trim levels. The Ford Explorer offers a 2,000 lb towing capacity in comparison, which doesn't measure up to the Traverse but would be fine for towing small jet skis or some extra luggage. It's definitely not enough for tough hauling. The Explorer offers 2 engine sizes but you are going to have to shell out some extra cash upfront to get the upgrade. Tech Savvy or Tech Backward? The 2017 Chevrolet Traverse brings the boom in the technology category, with an array of standard and available technology. Opt for the built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi and you can keep all of your passengers connected while saving them from using their data. Standard options include a 3-month trial of Chevrolet's stellar OnStar service, which offers safety features and some cool Siri-linked voice command features that will give you hands-free options to keep you safer. Ford offers the SYNC package in the Explorer, which allows you to make hands-free calls and choose your music, but this not available at all in the 2 base models. Some trims offer a 6 month trial to Sirius XM, which is nice, and we like the available dual 2nd row smart USB ports, but both of those options are available only on the highest trims. Giving You Peace of Mind The good news here is that, no matter which vehicle you choose, both the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse and the Ford Explorer get the highest overall safety ratings by the NTHSA. The Traverse offers OnStar, with automatic crash assist and basic levels of assistance, for five years to buyers, which is a nice bonus. It also comes standard with the regular buffet of safety features, including a rear camera and airbags throughout the vehicle. We're impressed, though, by the package of available safety features that the Explorer offers. Active Park Asisst, Lane Keeping, knee airbags and a safety canopy, reverse sensing system, and a rear camera. While not all of these features are available until the higher trims, the Explorer offers more options than the Traverse. In this category, the Ford takes the crown. Learn More about the Chevrolet Traverse Inventory Contact The 2017 Chevy Traverse is the clear standout here, with more passenger room, solid safety track record, greater towing power, and more tech features. Add to those options a lower pricetag than the base model Ford Explorer, and you have a midsize SUV that will take you anywhere for less.

2017 Chevrolet Malibu vs. Ford Fusion

2017 Chevrolet Malibu vs Ford Fusion

Inventory Contact With so much focus currently on crossovers it's easy to overlook just how fantastic some other types of vehicles in the current auto market really are, and the midsize sedan segment is one particularly rich vein of automotive excellence right now. Two of the undoubted champions of that particular realm are the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu and the 2017 Ford Fusion, so let's take a closer look to see which one is most deserving of more attention. 2017 Chevrolet Malibu vs Ford Fusion Interior and Exterior Styling If you want to look for an area to use for leveling criticism at the Ford Fusion, the exterior styling isn't going to be a target-rich environment for you. It has been around for a little while now though, and its success means there's an awful lot of Fusions out there on the road. The interior is clean, modern and functional, but it's perhaps not as thrilling as the interiors of its siblings the Focus and Fiesta, especially when it comes to the cockpit. The Malibu has a familiar name but its impressive development may have gone under many buyers' radar in recent times. The Chevy has made extensive use of high strength steel to deliver a car that's now lighter, brighter and longer than it used to be. It's sporty in a way that stops just short of full-blown sports coupe levels of restricted rear headroom, but it's sleek and aerodynamic enough to still deliver more than a modicum of the wow-factor. As a midsize with one of the most spacious interiors in its class and as it's a little less common than the Fusion, the Malibu just edges it here. Comfort, Quality and Practicality The Fusion can be comfortable, practical and of high quality, but it's going to cost you a fair amount to get there if we're honest. There's nothing wrong with getting what you pay for, but there is if you can have it for less somewhere else. The interior trim is fairly basic on lower trim levels, so buyers will be tempted to spend more for better. There are no problems with practicality though, as levels of passenger and cargo capacity are decidedly generous here. Despite a relatively short wheelbase, the Malibu makes good use of some clever interior packaging to bring about a feeling of genuine spaciousness, and rear-seat passengers can even enjoy as much as 38.1 inches of leg room. Features like active noise cancellation and sound deadening subdue any harsh vibrations from the road and drivetrain, and even the entry level L model has a good quality feel about it. The Ford would probably win this section if we were only considering the top trim levels, but the Malibu is the better all-rounder. Engines The Malibu has two engines that do a fine job of balancing power with fuel economy without having to go all the way to the hybrid. Both are four-cylinder units though, so anyone wanting a more powerful V-6 will not find what they're looking for here in the Chevy. The two available engines are both turbocharged and the 2.0-liter develops 250 horsepower, which is enough for most applications, but it could leave you wishing for a little more. Engines are a real strong suit for the Fusion with no less than four to select from, and that's before you get to the hybrid and plug-in hybrids. The base engine is a normally aspirated 2.5-liter inline four, but the other three are all EcoBoost turbos. The crowning glory is therefore the 2.7-liter V-6 in the Fusion Sport with its 325 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque, which the Malibu just hasn't got an answer to. Fuel Economy With four engines, including three efficient EcoBoost units, the 2017 Ford Fusion offers some good fuel economy ratings. The best numbers unsurprisingly come from the 1.5-liter EcoBoost, which is rated at 23 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway and 27 mpg combined. The 1.5 in the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu is also its fuel economy champion, but it could surprise some that it's quite a bit better than its Ford equivalent. The Malibu therefore gets EPA-estimated figures as good as 27 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway and 30 mpg combined, which really is impressive and a good deal better than the Fusion. Learn More about the Chevrolet Malibu Inventory Contact There are no lemons or turkeys here in either lineup, and it would be churlish to suggest anyone would be desperately let down by either car in any meaningful way. But if we had to choose one it would have to be the Malibu. It's a bit fresher looking than the Ford, it's more fuel-efficient and it's more affordable at both ends of the specification spectrum.

2017 Chevrolet Cruze vs Ford Focus

2017 Chevrolet Cruze vs Honda Civic

Inventory Contact With more than enough compact cars around these days for us to be spoiled for choice, attracting buyers away from competitors as well as crossovers of a similar size means a compact car has to be pretty exceptional. The Honda Civic is an incredibly popular and enduring nameplate, but Chevrolet has now offered a serious rival in the form of the recently redesigned Cruze. So, let's compare the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze and the Honda Civic to see which comes out on top. 2017 Chevrolet Cruze vs Honda Civic Styling The Cruze underwent a complete redesign for 2016, and it's now one of the most attractive cars in its class. It's sleek, sporty, and modern now but without going too far down that futuristic road. You'll have the option of a hatch as well as the sedan body style this year. Most of the time, a hatch version looks sportier than a sedan, but that's not the case here as they're both extremely attractive. Guess what? The Honda Civic is now also available as a hatch, which has been added to the sedan and coupe body styles to give buyers quite a bit of choice. The Civic is a good-looking car in all three forms, although this latest redesign isn't the most radical and it could easily be mistaken for a mid-cycle refresh. A relative lack of imagination on Honda's part therefore hands this round to the Cruze. Interior Comfort and Quality Being longer and wider than many of its rivals translates into plenty of legroom for front and rear-seat passengers, giving the Cruze a good start for comfort and quality. As well as plenty of room, the seats are also impressively bolstered and very comfortable, especially in higher trim levels. While the Cruze is bigger than many of its rivals in the segment, it's not significantly bigger than the Civic, which means plenty of room for passengers and cargo inside the Honda. Obviously there are differences between the body styles when it comes to headroom in the rear seats, but on the whole there's more than enough most of the time. Engines and Performance At the moment it's a take-it or leave-it situation with the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze as there's just one engine. The unit in question is a 1.4-liter turbo-four producing 153 horsepower, although sedan models will soon be available with a new turbodiesel and hatches will get it as an option for 2018. The current engine is capable and appropriate and the ride is very good indeed, but a more powerful option for those who want it would be welcomed. The Civic's base engine isn't a turbo, but the 2.0-liter four-cylinder does offer very similar power and performance to the unit in the Cruze. However, the Civic can also be had with a turbo-four that develops as much as 180 horsepower in some variants, so this section has to go to the Honda. Fuel Economy The EPA rates the current 2017 Chevy Cruze at 30 mpg in the city, 40 mpg on the highway, and 34 mpg combined with the automatic transmission. These numbers are pretty good for an engine with none of those fancy eco settings that turn off all the stuff that makes you comfortable and slow you down. Things are not quite as straightforward with the Honda Civic, though, as things like the 18-inch wheels and body kit on Civic Hatchback Sport models hurt fuel economy and produce different ratings. In its most standard form, though, the 2.0-liter inline-four mated to the six-speed manual transmission is rated at 28 mpg in the city, 40 mpg on the highway and 32 mpg combined. The Chevy's fuel economy can be beaten by the Honda Civic if you go for the 1.5 turbo, but as the standard engine isn't as frugal as the Chevy's we'll have to give this to the Cruze. Learn More about the Chevrolet Cruze Inventory Contact Given its longstanding reputation, it would be easy to lazily assume the Honda Civic would be a better choice than the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze, but only without looking at them in any detail. Although the Cruze doesn't deliver any real knockout blows to the Civic's reputation for quality, it's a match for it in most areas and better in some ways, especially how it looks. Especially with a rumored diesel option for the Cruze, which will improve fuel economy, the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze clearly outmatches its Honda rival in this competition.

2017 Chevrolet Cruze vs Honda Civic

2017 Chevrolet Cruze vs Ford Focus

Inventory Contact There's certainly no shortage of compact cars around these days, which means to attract buyers away from rivals and from similar-sized crossovers, a compact car has to be seriously good. The Ford Focus has long been one the frontrunners in this segment here and in plenty of other markets around the globe, but Chevrolet has made the Cruze a serious challenger now. So, let's take a closer look at the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze and the Ford Focus to see which one is best. 2017 Chevrolet Cruze vs Ford Focus Styling The Cruze was completely redesigned just last year, and it's hard to overstate what a great job the designers did. It's now sleek and thoroughly modern but without being polarizing, and with the choice of hatch and sedan body styles.Normally, a hatch is a little sportier than a sedan, but in this case they're both extremely attractive. A light restyling of the Focus was carried out a couple of years ago, and that has kept it looking fresh before the next all-new version that's probably landing in 2018. The Focus is a very good-looking car, but the latest incarnation of the Cruze is even more attractive. Interior Comfort and Quality Having as much interior space for passengers and cargo as possible always helps with comfort, and the Cruze is so spacious it could be taken for a midsize. It's longer and wider than many of its rivals, which translates into plenty of legroom for front and rear-seat passengers. But as well as plenty of room, the seats are also nicely bolstered for excellent comfort, especially at higher trim levels. You're okay if you're in the front seats of the Focus, but larger adults won't have a particularly great time in the back seats for anything more than a very short journey. The seats themselves are fairly comfortable though, and the design of the interior is modern and attractive. But the substantial amount of extra space gives this round firmly to the Cruze. Engines and Performance Although it's a pretty lively 1.4-liter turbo producing 153 horsepower, the Cruze's inline-four engine is the only powerplant available, at least for now. Sedan models will soon be available with a new turbodiesel and hatchbacks will get it next year. The engine is capable and appropriate and the ride is excellent, but it would be nice to have the option of something more powerful. By way of total contrast, no less than four different engines are available with the Ford Focus: the standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a three-cylinder 1.0-liter EcoBoost, a 2.0-liter EcoBoost, and the awesome 2.3-liter EcoBoost in the performance RS model. Every engine is excellent and the sheer amount of choice means this section is an easy win for the Ford. Fuel Economy If you think the greater size and weight of the Chevrolet Cruze will make it a little heavy on gas, you couldn't really be more wrong. The EPA rates the 2017 Cruze at 30 mpg in the city, 40 mpg on the highway and 34 mpg combined with the automatic transmission, which is pretty impressive. Those numbers can be beaten by the Ford Focus, but only by upgrading from the standard 2.0-liter to the 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost, which limits the models available to you. The standard 2.0-liter found in the vast majority of models is rated at 26 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway and 31 mpg combined, so we'll call this one for the Cruze. Learn More about the Chevrolet Cruze Inventory Contact The Ford Focus has been a popular choice for a long time now, and it's still right up there with the better compacts in the market. However, the Cruze is a more modern car in a number of ways and it's also better looking than the Ford, especially now there's also a hatch option to tempt buyers. And if you're regularly going to have more than two people in your car, you'll certainly be pleased with the extra space to be found in the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze.
