The first thing the Chevrolet Volt has going for it is a style that doesn’t scream hybrid. If you’re in the market for a greener vehicle, you know that most hybrids sacrifice looks for the virtue of hybrid technology–not the Volt. The Volt’s smooth curves give it a sleek and aerodynamic look while the chiseled doors add to the overall style that you are looking for. The front and rear windshields seem to extend higher than most giving you a better view. The style is what you would expect from any sedan, regardless of its hybrid status.

The other bonus to the Volt is its performance. The Volt’s hybrid system switches seamlessly between all-electric powered, all-gas powered, and a mixture that falls somewhere in between. This provides the acceleration and power that you’re looking for without sacrificing you’re good gas mileage. If you’re just going around town, you can travel up to 53 miles without ever using a drop of gasoline. Chevrolet also expects that you may even be able to go up to 1,100 miles before having to hit the gas station as long as you’re re-charging regularly. If you want to save money with the gas price going up, but still look good doing it, then the Volt just might be your answer.

The Volt can be charged in a couple of ways. The first is a standard recharging option, using the portable 120V charger that you can use anywhere you can plug it in, giving you a charging option on the go. A 240V charging unit installed at home will fully charge your Volt in about 4.5 hours, a faster option when you’re home for good. The Volt also uses regenerative braking to turn the energy of stopping into more battery power.

Of course, the Volt also runs on gas too. If you are on the highway and need to get up to speed, or if you are big on flooring the gas pedal for quick acceleration, the Volt will sense what you need and gradually switch from electric to gas power to give you exactly what you want while still using as little gas as possible.

The Chevrolet onboard wi-fi can connect with up to seven mobile devices, so you don’t use your phone’s data plan. This feature makes for a great commuter benefit, giving you the ability to work on the go or connect a computer without having to track down a Starbucks. The Chevrolet wi-fi works using On Star system, so you’ll need an active OnStar account and a CDMA cellular connection–essentially, you’ll add a data plan to your OnStar account to utilize this feature.

“Good” is both subjective and comparative. We can say, though, that Chevrolet has been around for more than 100 years and has a history of quality and reliability. Chevrolet also has a few things that no one else has. The MyChevrolet App, for example, lets you see diagnostic information, set maintenance appointments, turn the car on and off, and lock and unlock you car all from your smart phone. Another Chevy feature is its Teen Driver Technology, which allows you to set warnings to go off at a specified speed, the radio volume to be muted until everyone is buckled up, and to let you, as a parent, know when the automated safety features have been activated.
