Power and Fuel
Engine choices on the Tahoe include a 335 hp 5.3-liter or a 420 hp 6.2-liter V-8. Both come with cylinder deactivation to help save fuel when full power isn’t needed. The 5.3-liter V-8 pairs with a six-speed automatic, while the 6.2-liter V-8 gets a 10-speed automatic. It offers a tow/haul mode for the six-speed transmission; and rear- or four-wheel-drive models are also offered. It has considerable ground clearance and towing capabilities of up to 8,600 pounds. The Tahoe estimates 15/22 mpg in the city and on the highway and is average for a full-size SUV.
The Enclave’s powertrain is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 310 hp and 266 pound-feet of torque, and is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. It offers power and performance for a midsize SUV, but it doesn’t have quite the power and towing capability of the Tahoe. It can pull with up to 5,000 lbs. when properly equipped.
