Ford vs Chevy for Truck
Ford or Chevy for truck? That’s the question that’s been on the minds of countless truck buyers for decades. Both brands offer capable trucks that satisfy the needs of truck lovers everywhere, but which choice should buyers go for? To find out, it’s worth taking a look at two offerings in the fiercely competitive full-size truck segment: the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado.
For over three decades, the Ford F-Series has held onto the title of “best-selling truck” based on overall sales – to the tune of tens of millions of sales to date. The F-150 cuts a handsome figure, but it’s not as satisfyingly aggressive as the Silverado’s well-defined body styling. Some may also find the F-150’s overall fit and finish being a step behind the Silverado, in spite of its relatively attractive design and trimming. Passengers will enjoy Ford’s available SYNC with MyFord Touch, offering an LED touch screen and voice commands.
Looks
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado kicked off a new generation with a larger, bolder grille and sharply sculpted flanks that lend the full-size pickup a far more muscular look than the F-150. The Silverado offers a smoother, more composed ride than the F-150 thanks to its finely-tuned suspension. Hydraulic body mounts help isolate the Silverado’s cabin from excess noise, while the cabin itself features visually pleasant, high-quality materials, especially on the LTZ and High Country trims. For comfort and entertainment, passengers have access to Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and the climate control functions via the bright and clear touch screen, as well as through its natural-voice recognition commands.
Engine & Power
Engine options for the F-150 run the gamut. The 2019 model year boasts no fewer than 6 engine options, from the all-new 3-liter diesel-powered V6 to the high-horsepower 3.5-liter V6, which is standard for Limited and Raptor trims. The twin-turbocharged V6 offers a stunning 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque.
While the F-150 dazzles truck buyers with its options and power, the Silverado offers a 285-horsepower V6 base engine, a 310-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, a 355-horsepower V8, and a 420-horsepower V8. These numbers are just a hair behind the F-150s and often, with Dynamic or Active Fuel Management systems, get better fuel economy than its Ford rival.
Why Chevy Trucks?
While Ford prides itself on offering the best-selling pickup truck, statistically speaking, but it’s Chevy that offers the winning combination of value, performance and ruggedness, with a surprising amount of efficiency thrown in for good measure.
