The 2015 Chevy Silverado stands out amongst several worthy competitors. The automotive masterminds at Chevrolet really put in some long hours to make this year’s Silverado the best truck in America. Below, we explain exactly what they did to make the ’15 Silverado the cream of the truck crop.

2015 Chevy Silverado A Functional Form with Convenience

This year’s Silverado carries itself with a much improved aesthetic. It looks more macho with sharply defined angles, straightened corners and a few sultry curves. This is a man’s truck, without a doubt. Aside from making the truck appear more masculine, the designers at Chevrolet have also increased the truck’s functionality by placing notches into the bed rail and back bumper to make getting in and out of the truck that much easier. The rear doors are now front hinged and can be opened before the front doors, a convenient improvement from last year’s models and a significant advantage over competing trucks. There are also new corner steps on the back bumper for easy double tier loading. The new design is also much more aerodynamic with improved front grille shutters as well as other minor design improvements. To top it off, there is a well-defined front nose and fascia as well as a camouflage version of the truck for those who enjoy the outdoors and have an eye for style.

Three Unique Engines

The new Silverado offers potential buyers a plethora of engine choices. In total, the truck has three engines to choose from. Each is in the General Motors Ecotec3 group, meaning that they all have variable valve timing, cylinder deactivation and direct injection. The Silverado is sold in a 2500HD trim and a 3500 HD trim. Any of the three engines can be had with either trim. The first engine is an 8 cylinder with 6.0 liters. There’s also an 8 cylinder with 6.2 liters, 360 horses and 380 pound feet of torque. The third choice is a diesel powered engine with 6.6 liters. Each is teamed with a six speed Allison style automatic transmission.

More Bells and Whistles

The Silverado has an enormous range of features and amenities that make the truck feel like a luxury vehicle. Some of these luxuries are heated and ventilated seats, USB ports, a MyLink infotainment system with an eight inch touchscreen, under rail box lighting, voice recognition and multiple power ports. There’s also acoustic-lined glass and triple sealed doors to reduce noise from outside the vehicle.

Simplified Towing

This year’s Silverado has a brand new, re-designed hitch that allows it to tow more than any previous model. Chevy engineers like to stress the amount of work that they put into the truck’s new engine cooling system, improved front end sealing and aerodynamic ducts that help the truck tow enormous loads. They also paid particular attention to smoothing over the airflow above the truck’s tailgate and its roof spoiler. Even the dashboard was designed with towing in mind as it now has unique controls that specifically control the truck’s towing functions. The exhaust brake is activated with a press of a dash board button. There’s a trailer brake controller to the left of the Silverado’s steering wheel. There’s also a haul/tow button conveniently placed at the shifter’s end.

Impeccable Safeguards

The 2015 Chevy Silverado is going to be one of the safest automobiles on the roads. It has an array of safety features like a lane departure warning system, rear-cross traffic alerts, a forward collision warning system, a backup camera, LED box lighting, a safety alert driver’s seat, an integrated trailer brake control and much more.
